Why Dr. Ruscio, DC Recommends it

  • Many of my thyroid patients have had good success in treating subclinical hypothyroidism naturally with myo-inositol (in conjunction with selenium).
  • Important for its role in the structure of cell membranes and function of neurotransmitters (such as serotonin) in the brain.
  • Inositol plays a role in promoting female fertility, and restoring insulin sensitivity, making it a particularly useful supplement for women with PCOS.
  • Myo-Inositol is a safe, well researched and effective form of inositol.

What the Research Shows

Some studies have also shown that myo-inositol and selenium used together help with Hashimoto’s or subclinical hypothyroidism.

In one study, 48 patients with slightly elevated TSH levels and thyroid antibodies saw a 31% decrease in TSH and a 44% decrease in thyroid antibodies after 6 months on this combined therapy  [1].

A 2020 study published in the Endocrine Journal also found that the combination of inositol and selenium led to lower TSH levels when used for up to 12 months [2].

A small meta-analysis suggests that inositol may be beneficial for depressed and anxious patients, especially those with Premenstrual dysphoric disorder [3].

For women with PCOS, Inositol supplementation has been shown effective in improving glucose control, fertility, and menstrual regularity [4].
